Deidre But-Husaim is a visual artist who has oil painting at the core of her practice. In 2014 she was selected as the recipient of the Inaugural Guildhouse Collections Project at the Art Gallery of South Australia. But-Husaim has been a finalist in numerous major Australian art prizes including the Doug Moran Portrait Prize, the Portia Geach Memorial Award, the Sulman Prize and the Archibald Prize. In 2016 she won the Kennedy Art Award and in 2013 was the inaugural winner of the Tatiara Art Prize, that year also being awarded the People's Choice in the Whyalla Art Prize. She has received various awards and grants From Arts SA and the Australia Council for the Arts to further her research and practice. But-Husaim has presented many workshops at the Art Gallery of South Australia and lectures in painting at Adelaide Central School of Art. She has held several solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. Her work has been curated into institutional exhibitions and is regularly featured in the art press, including in-depth profiles on her practice in Australian Art Review and Art Collector magazines. Her paintings are held in Artbank, The National Portrait Gallery Canberra and in public and private collections both nationally and internationally. Deidre co-founded Hedgemaze artist studios in Port Adelaide (2004 – 2009) and The Incinerator studios in Thebarton (2009 – present). This current studio was designed by Walter Burley Griffin and Eric Nicholls, c. 1935.
